Ensemble Mare Balticum
Ensemble Mare Balticum, based in Kristianstad, provides special expertise relating to early music. It performs music from the 17th century and earlier, in particular music from the countries around the Baltic Sea. The musicians have extensive experience of presenting a unique form of pure concerts. They also provide historical, educational concert programmes in which they bring history to life with music, for adults as well as for children and youngsters. Ensemble Mare Balticum was founded in 1989 and takes its name from the Baltic Sea – Mare Balticum.
Over the years, Ensemble Mare Balticum’s programme has been aimed at both children and adults of all ages. Their extensive knowledge and great love of music from the 13th to the 17th centuries has given rise to many exciting projects and concerts. They have collaborated with personalities such as Sven Wollter, Cecilia Frode, Göran Stangertz, Roger Pontare, Marika Lagercrantz, Bo Eriksson and Martin Bagge. The ensemble has also been given newly written music for early instruments by e.g. Sven-Erik Bäck, Gunnar Valkare, Johan Magnus Sjöberg and Reine Jönsson. It has recorded albums such as Till konungens førnøjelse, JulaSongh, Triumf att finnas till, Ack, Libertas! and Ice and Longboats.
